Connor McGregor has accepted a rematch with Dustin Poirier but the Irishman insists it must take place in 2020. There were plenty of rumours about whether McGregor would return to the octagon after having announced his retirement recently, but now that appears to be likely.
Poirier wrote a message to McGregor on Twitter, asking what he was up to, to which the Irishman replied his keenness for a fight. “Hello Dustin! I accepted the UFC offer to fight you, but told them it must happen in 2020,” he replied on Twitter. “I’m ready for November 21, given that cards recent injury issues, as well as any of the December dates, the 12th and the 19th. I’ll also still donate the 500k (dollars) to The Good Fight Foundation.”
McGregor has not fought since January, and in the summer he announced his retirement, although after UFC 253 he ‘agreed’ to fight Diego Sanchez, in addition to having a boxing bout scheduled against Manny Pacquiao. “I’m boxing Manny Pacquaio next in the Middle East,” McGregor tweeted on September 25.”It will be a true honour to have faced two of the greatest boxers of the modern era, afraid of a fight.”
The UFC has not made the match between McGregor and Poirier official, although it appears that the two fighters have accepted the meeting. McGregor and Poirier met at UFC 153 in 2014, with the Irishman winning with a knockout in the first round.
