- Czech player prevails 6-1, 2-6, 6-4 at Roland Garros
- Title represents first grand slam crown for Krejcikova
Over the past two weeks in Paris, Barbora Krejcikova has competed in just the fifth grand slam singles main draw of her career, her third as a direct entrant into the draw. She has not even made it to the Wimbledon or the US Open main draws, yet when she finally does she will remarkably debut as a singles grand slam champion. In a wonderful display of toughness and guile, Krejcikova defeated Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova 6-1, 2-6, 6-4 to win the French Open, her first singles grand slam title.
After a run that has included one match point saved, numerous set points scuppered as well as ample beatdowns against five seeded players, Krejcikova has become the second Czech woman to win Roland Garros. This is also the sixth straight year that the French Open has crowned a first-time grand slam winner, maintaining its identity as one of the most unpredictable stages in sports.
