Pinchez credits “good atmosphere” for City Stars’ good form

A solitary Nicholas Kipkirui goal over the weekend against Kakamega Homeboyz ensured Nairobi City Stars picked up their fourth consecutive win that lifted them up to a season-high sixth place on the league standings. But it was never like that at the Jonathan Jackson funded outfit. There was a time the club had gone on an eight-match winless streak, drawing four and losing four, but the latest showing of resurgence from Sanjin Alagic’s men show a side that has overcome its hitherto struggles and who are determined on homing in on their targets.Veteran midfielder Peter ‘Pinchez’ Opiyo has credited the club’s atmosphere as one of the enabling factors that has seen the club shake off their inconsistencies since the resumption of the league, performances that currently place the team in second place on the form table.“There is a good atmosphere in the team that propels us for the upcoming games. The atmosphere I am talking about is the love and unity in the team. And when there is that foundation of unity, there is that motivation and psyching we give each other. If we get the first goal, we constantly push ourselves to try and get the second and the third,” he told Mozzart Sport.????| Form Table after Matchday 21#BKPL pic.twitter.com/QTL78W9pZ7— Betking Kenya Premier League (@Officialfkfpl) June 21, 2021 And if you have watched City Stars play, their head coach normally cuts a frustrated figure if things do not work out the way he wants. Of course any coach would. But he takes it personally, you can see it in his face and you can hear it in his voice. It breaks him, something Pinchez pointed out, while acknowledging that the team has come a long way compared to the first half of the campaign where they collected more losses than wins.“Our coach is also very loving to us to an extent he gives us very useful information that enables us to play the way we are right now. In the first half of the season, our team cohesion was not where we would want it to be because we had new names added to the squad and we had not gelled very well. But right now, at least we know weaknesses that are there and we know how to step in and cover for the team in those shortcomings,” he added.FULLTIMENCS takes the day in RuarakaI hope we are still Homeboyz ????FULLTIME SCORESNCS 1️⃣ – 0️⃣ KKH#COYSWN#????????????????????????????ℕ???????????????????????? pic.twitter.com/XgTtEFxo56— Official Nairobi City Stars Fc (@NrbCityStars) June 19, 2021 City Stars are now only two points behind Kariobangi Sharks in fourth place and with the William Muluya coached side struggling for grip, a win over Nzoia Sugar on Friday would take them to fifth position.
