Mathare United head coach Frank Ouna is adopting a cautious approach ahead of the AFC Leopards game on Wednesday as they seek to free themselves from the shackles of relegation. The Slum Boys’ Achilles heel has been their defensive frailties that has seen them fail to keep a clean sheet in the last five encounters.Speaking ahead of the clash against AFC Leopards that is slated for Wednesday 23 June at the Ruaraka Ground, Ouna emphasized the need to tighten things at the back.“By all means we have to be solid at the back against Leopards or any other team we face here on out. We haven’t been able to do that in our games even though the effort has been there. We just need to dig deeper,”“We tried it in the first game against Leopards but only after they had scored. Now we need to implement the strategy from beginning to end. At 0-0 you are always in with a chance to win,” said Ouna.???? | #KCBvsMathare in pictures.#GreatnessWithin #MUFC pic.twitter.com/2HNhcsF8Bd— Mathare United FC (@MathareUtd) June 20, 2021 Mathare have only kept three clean sheets this season a run that has led to them picking only a single win all season against Nzoia Sugar back in February. The 2008 Premier League champions have the second leakiest defence after soaking in 29 goals with their attack also being poor, scoring a paltry 13 goals that is the second-worst in the league.Ouna also bemoaned the tricky fixture congestion that has seen them play Gor Mahia, AFC Leopards and KCB twice who are all embroiled in a tight title race. “You can call it a baptism of fire. In the space of a month, we will have played five matches against teams looking to win the league. It is somehow overwhelming, but again in such situations is when you know what you are made of,”“We’ve lost those games as most outside the club expected but what they didn’t expect is for us to give each and every team a run for their money. Our performances were worthy of at least a point and gave us the belief that we can pull it off,” added Ouna.
