Winless Ouna crossing fingers as Mathare United face AFC Leopards

New Mathare United head coach Frank Ouna will be hoping that the elusive chase for a first league win under his tenure will somehow come to an end when he leads his side against a fourth placed AFC Leopards who have only won one of their last four fixtures in a match set for Ruaraka Grounds on Wednesday afternoon. That the slum boys have struggled this season is an open secret. Only two wins in nineteen games played have ensured that the club has never left the relegation places in the league table, and despite a change of guard at the helm, new man Frank Ouna is yet to make any telling impact to try and plot a turnaround in the five games he has already overseen. The club has so far conceded 29 goals – a second high in the entire league campaign. Against Leopards, though, the former Wazito boss is hoping a defensive masterclass will spur his team to better results if not to win the game.“By all means we have to be solid at the back against Leopards or any other team we face here on. We have not been able to do that in our games even though the effort has been there. We just need to dig deeper,” he is quoted on the club’s portal.

Leopards on the other hand have faltered in their last four games, winning only once, drawing twice and losing the remaining fixture. Consequently, the club has dropped till fourth place and are now behind bitter rivals Gor Mahia due to an inferior goal difference. Who thought? That enough should be enough motivation for the Ingwe players to go all out and score, by a lot!Surprisingly, in the last five meetings between the two sides, Mathare has won thrice while Leopards have won only twice which makes the contest even more intriguing. On paper, Ingwe will feel this is a perfect chance to equal that head to head record in the sixth game and complete the double. But a desperate Mathare willing to put up a fight might just have other ideas.⚽️ | Coach Ouna shares his strategy for tomorrow’s game against @AFCLeopards as well as his thoughts on that elusive first “W” as head coach of Mathare United.Read: https://t.co/8BJO29Hux7#GreatnessWithin #MathareVsLeopards #FKFPL pic.twitter.com/Cic2pxInw7— Mathare United FC (@MathareUtd) June 22, 2021 The match kicks off at 1500EAT.
