Clinical Bandari mutilates Sharks in Mombasa

Mombasa-based Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Premier League side, Bandari FC ended their four-month wait for a league win with a 4-1 pounding of Kariobangi Sharks in a match staged at the Mbaraki Sports Club on Friday afternoon.Heading into the game, both teams were in torrid form and badly needed to win. Bandari had not won a league match in six attempts while Sharks were on a four-match losing streak in the FKFPL and badly wanted to end the poor run in the Coastal town of Mombasa.Bandari head coach Andre Cassa Mbungo made some bold changes in his starting lineup by benching some key players who ordinarily would have started the match. Defender Brian Otieno, Danson Chetambe who has seven assists to his name this season, Collins Agade the midfield enforcer, and Harambee Stars winger Abdalla Hassan were all benched. Youngster Dennis Magige was handed a rare start in the middle of the park. For Sharks, there were no surprises other than Peter Lwasa getting a rare start. The hosts made their home advantage count, picking a huge win. Benjamin Mosha grabbed a brace for the Dockers while William Wadri and his Ugandan counterpart Umaru Kasumba grabbed a goal-apiece. Erick Kapaito got the commiserating strike for Sharks.pic.twitter.com/lFxIETzH0k— Bandari Football Club (@BandariOfficial) June 25, 2021 The Dockers showed that they mean business in the early stages of the game, they showed serious attacking threat, piling pressure on William Muluya’s men. Darius Msagha’s goal-bound shot in the 15th minute was cleared by James Mazembe as Sharks survived what looked like a clear opener for Bandari.Four minutes later, Umaru Kasumba opened the party with a beautiful diving header that Brandon Obiero could do little to stop. Ten minutes later, constant attacking from Bandari led to Sharks conceding a penalty after Keegan Ndemi was fouled inside the area, William Wadri stepped forward and as is the norm, found the back of the net with utmost ease. Sharks started to show more ambition after the second goal and they almost halved the deficit just before the breakthrough Eric Kapaito but Burundian keeper Justin Ndikumana pulled a superb save to deny the league’s top scorer.Sharks made three changes after the interval in a bid to save face and prevent Bandari from running riot. Peter Oudu, Erick Juma, and John Omondi were introduced for Douglas Mokaya, Joshua Onyango, and Peter Lwasa. Two minutes into the second half, they won a penalty which Kapaito stepped forward to take. He made no mistake sending Ndikumana the wrong way to give his team hopes of salvaging something from the match.🟢 | 54′ Patillah Omoto with a miss pass Mosha Benjamin gets to the end if it and scores Bandari FC 3 Kariobangi Sharks FC 1#BandariVsSharks#BKPL pic.twitter.com/hph8k5fYUG— Betking Kenya Premier League (@Officialfkfpl) June 25, 2021 The reprieve was however short-lived as Benjamin Mosha got a third for Bandari in the 55th minute after leaving several Sharks players for the dead before slotting past Obiero. He then completed his brace on the 63rd minute, a goal that surely put the match beyond the visitors’ reach.Sharks opted to go for a more cautious approach after the fourth goal and did well to deny the Dockers on several occasions. The win sees Sharks drop to seventh in the log with 31 points. Bandari remain sixth with the same number of points.Bandari starting XI: Justin Ndikumana, Nicholas Meja, Felly Mulumba, Bernard Odhiambo, Mohamed Siraj, Keegan Ndemi, Dennis Magige, William Wadri, Benjamin Mosha, Darius Msagha, Umaru KasumbaSubs: Michael Wanyika, Swaleh Chacha, Brian Otieno, Dan Guya, Danson Chetambe, Collins Agade, Wilberforce Lugogo, Abdalla Hassan, Johanna MwitaKariobangi Sharks starting XI: Brandon Obiero, Fredrick Alushula, Tom Teka, Joshua Onyango, Saphan Oyugi, Reagan Odede, Patilah Omoto, James Mazembe, Douglas Mokaya, Erick Kapaito, Peter LwasaSubs; Brian Olang’o, Peter Oudu, Boniface Mwangemi, Ibrahim Ochieng, Erick Juma, Ibrahim Kitawi, John Omondi
