Nzoia in tricky away tie with Nairobi City Stars

Nzoia Sugar will be seeking to avenge the deeds of Nairobi City Stars in their first leg when they meet again later today at Narok Stadium. This will be only their second meeting, with City Stars having beaten Nzoia 2-0 the opening game of the campaign in November last year, their first-ever meeting in the league courtesy of goals from Anthony Kimani and Oliver Maloba, a win the City Stars CEO christened historical then.Since then, both teams have gone through different phases in their respective campaigns, including lengthy winless streaks for both teams at different times and Nzoia changing coaches from Peter Mwaura to Ibrahim Shikanda.FKF-PL Round 21🗓 | Friday 25th June 2021Nzoia Sugar Fc 🆚 City Stars🏆 | @Officialfkfpl ⏰ | 1500hrs🏟 | Narok Stadium#𝕊𝕚𝕞𝕓𝕒𝕎𝕒ℕ𝕒𝕚𝕣𝕠𝕓𝕚BETTER MUST COMEFollow us on @NrbCityStars for all updates. pic.twitter.com/Fa2OClXKVY— Official Nairobi City Stars Fc (@NrbCityStars) June 23, 2021 Nzoia went for seven matches without a win since that opening day loss to City Stars, before enjoying some wins in between losses, with their last win coming against Gor Mahia in February. They have since gone for six matches without a win.Simba wa Nairobi, on the other hand, went for eight matches without recording a win after their second win of the season, against Bandari in December. They have however had some good runs, including the current record four matches winning streak.Nzoia’s tactician Ibrahim Shikanda is adamant that his team will give Nairobi City Stars a run for their money, saying that they are going in it to win it.”We are ready to face Nairobi City Stars. We have had a bad run due to the league stoppages but we shall come up very strongly against them and no one should underrate us. We know City Stars are a good team but we are a good team as well,” Shikanda said⚽️| WWWWFor the first time this season, @NrbCityStars string four consecutive wins to go sixth on the log table👏🏾#KCB #KakamegaHomeboyz #BKPL https://t.co/YIYx5Mdu0e— Mozzart Sport Kenya (@MozzartSportKe) June 19, 2021 They will be seeking to replicate the performance in the first leg and also continue their winning streak to five. While City Stars are in the top half of the table at position six with 29 points from 20 matches, Nzoia are in the bottom half at position 14 with a paltry 17 points from 19 matches.Their longest-serving player, Calvin Masawa says that their recent good run has been a result of soul searching when they had bad runs.“We had lost a bit of focus which is normal in football but after the meetings, we decided that it was high time we started collecting maximum points. Before we were dropping points from winnable matches. We agreed it had to come to an end and here we are collecting some good wins,” Masawa said.⚽️| WWWWFor the first time this season, @NrbCityStars string four consecutive wins to go sixth on the log table👏🏾#KCB #KakamegaHomeboyz #BKPL https://t.co/YIYx5Mdu0e— Mozzart Sport Kenya (@MozzartSportKe) June 19, 2021 However, Shikanda believes that despite being on that zone on the log, he has done a good job with his side and they are more solid though he insists that they are still a work in progress”I am happy with the team so far. Yes, it is painful we are at that position, but I believe I have done a good job with the boys. I am still preparing that team. We are creating a team for the future. My squad is intact. Even my three players who were trai9ning with the national team have joined us. I am very happy that we have three representatives in the national team, that puts the club on the map,” Shikanda said
