KCB winger Curtis Wekesa has labeled his side’s Wednesday league match against Nzoia Sugar, a must-win one as the race for next season’s CAF Champions League football hots up. The Bankers who are in contention for Caf Champions League football will be hoping to down the Millers and pray that Tusker do not beat Ulinzi Stars in Nakuru. The two teams are separated by a point ahead of 30th June deadline. Tusker leads the log with 44 points after 21 rounds of league matches while second-placed Bankers have 43 points. Tusker last played in the Caf Champions League in 2017 while KCB have never graced continental football. The team that will be top by 30th June will represent the country in next season’s Caf Champions League. Gor Mahia’s loss to Western Stima saw them slip out of the race.23′ | AttemptCurtis Wekesa hits his shot straight to the keeper.@KCBFootball 0️⃣-0️⃣ @FC_Sofapaka #KCBSOF#Believe #LionHearted 🦁— KCB Football Club 😷 (@KCBFootball) May 29, 2021 Ahead of the match against Nzoia, Wekesa says they have to down the struggling Millers as the race for Caf CL football is far from over. “On Wednesday we have to win because it’s arguably our most important game of the season. A lot is at stake and we have to put our best foot forward and grind a result. Everyone in the team is dreaming of continental football and it is time for us to show character and finish the job,” he told Mozzart Sport.“Anything can happen because Tusker have a tough game away in Nakuru as well and as such we have to ensure that we win our game and if they slip against Ulinzi then we will be home and dry and so I think the race is wide open either team can qualify for CAF Champions League,”KCB wasted an opportunity to go top on Saturday when they drew with Kakamega Homeboyz in Nakuru. It’s a draw that Wekesa believes would have been avoided.⏭| Next Match🆚| @nzoiasugarfc2 🏆| @Officialfkfpl 🏟 | Ruaraka Grounds📆| Wednesday June 3️⃣0️⃣, 2️⃣0️⃣2️⃣1️⃣🕒| 1️⃣5️⃣1️⃣5️⃣ hrs EAT#Believe #LionHearted 🦁 pic.twitter.com/FhPcWMmFb8— KCB Football Club 😷 (@KCBFootball) June 28, 2021 “I think we should have won that game because we were the better side, created the best chances but we just couldn’t score and that made a whole difference. We however cannot dwell much on that game, we have to dust ourselves and focus fully on our next game,” he concluded.
