Gor Mahia custodian Gad Mathews is angling for the Golden Glove at the end of the season following a string of clean sheets since the resumption of the league back in May. Gad is currently joint sixth in the clean sheets chart with seven, after missing a number of games at the start of the league season with Boniface Oluoch trusted between the sticks. His return to the starting lineup has coincided with the good run of form at K’Ogalo as he has kept seven clean sheets since the return of the league.Speaking to Mozzart Sport, Gad revealed that he is firmly in contention for the Golden Glove award and sounded a warning to other goalkeepers who are in contention for the gong.🟢 | Good morning to all from Mr. Cleansheet – goalkeeper Gad Mathews. #Sirkal | #Betsafe pic.twitter.com/DicO67dfKB— ⚽️GOR MAHIA FC (@OfficialGMFC) June 17, 2021 “I set a personal target to get more clean sheets and I also challenge the goalkeepers who are ahead of me in the clean sheet charts that the race is still on,” said the goalkeeper. The former Wazito FC keeper tasted defeat for the first time since the resumption of the league when Gor Mahia went down to Western Stima 2-1 to end their 13-game unbeaten run.Gad is four clean sheets shy of James Saruni who sits at the summit of the clean sheet standings with 11 as KCB’s Joseph Okoth sits on 10, AFC Leopards custodian Benjamin Ochan has nine to his name with Nairobi City Stars goalkeeper Steve Njung’e sitting on seven.Gad Mathews saves a controversial penalty awarded to Kariobangi Sharks.
