It could have been quite a career. Truth be told, it is not yet over but Ghana international Christian Atsu had big things cut out for him which eventually did not realise. As he moves toward the twilight years of his career, Christian himself admits he has failed to reach his full potential. The 29-year-old is currently searching for a new club after he parted ways with Newcastle United last season.Chelsea’s go-to guy not allowed to go, although he’s not Tuchel’s first choiceAtsu’s name resonated after he made a big move to Chelsea in 2013 from Porto but unfortunately his spell at Stamford Bridge was invisible as he made zero appearances for the London club.“I know I could have reached a higher level by now because I believe with all my heart even when I was leaving for Europe, I knew I will play football to the highest level,” said the Ada Foah-born, as reported by Sportsworldghana.“I know this is not my level, the level I am supposed to be but there are a lot of things behind it which I don’t want to make public.”According to the speedy flankman, there are offers from outside Europe.”I have a lot of offers but I think I will leave Europe but I cannot say anything for now.” Atsu stated.##EDITORS_CHOICE##Atsu was a part of Porto’s youth system and was sent to Rio Ave on loan for his first senior season in Europe. There he blossomed – 27 league appearances out of which 23 in the starting line-up with scoring six goals. With such performances came his first senior Ghana call-up for a game against Lesotho in 2012. And what a debut for the national team it was – Atsu scored a sublime goal after coming on as a second-half substitute. He has gone on to play at the 2014 World Cup and multiple Africa Cup of Nations tournaments.Back at Porto, they were impressed so they promoted him to their first-team in the 2012-13 campaign.Wow, that’s radical! Twenty-seven-year-old Lemina is deemed too old for NewcastleHe was quickly snatched by Chelsea after just one season with the Dragons. However, the competitions at Chelsea was always severe so he spent the entire duration of his association with the club out on loan – Vitesse, Everton, Bournemouth, Malaga and Newcastle United were all his home at one point or another.Out of all those loan spells, he saw his biggest club success with Newcastle securing Premier League promotion in 2017. After returning to the top tier of English football, Magpies took Atsu in with a full-on contract. But after five years with the north England club, earlier this month, he announced his departure from St James’ Park. What will his next stop be no one yet knows but he can surely contribute with quality performances wherever he lands. It is just a shame he did not reach his full potential as it could have been a glorious journey for this Black Star.
