Wazito end City Stars’ fairy run

At final whistle Nairobi City Stars coach Sanjin Alagic was left to rue his side’s wasted chances in Football Kenya Federation Premier League match they lost 1-0 to Wazito FC on Wednesday afternoon.A Musa Masika second half strike is all Wazito needed to down Simba wa Nairobi who were on a five match winning streak. Sanjin feels his side should have gotten something out of the game.”We had better chances than Wazito but we didn’t convert them and they got one which they scored, good individual goal from Masika. The game was also not so pleasing because the pitch is terrible and we now focus on the next game against Bandari,” he told Mozzart Sport. On his part Wazito coach Francis Kimanzi admitted that the Ruaraka playing surface made it difficult for the teams to play free flowing football.”It was a tough game because even the pitch is not so good, we could not play the way we wanted. Bu the boys fought well we had to adapt to the new. It was an important fight from my players and it is important that we won today, we now focus on Sunday against Posta Rangers,” he said. The first half was largely event-less with most of the action taking part in the middle of the park.City Stars failed to hit the target in the first half with the lone real chance being Sven Yidah’s shot which narrowly missed the target in the 32nd minute. Wazito hit the target twice through Musa Masika and Whyvonne Isuza, Steve Njunge denied them on both occasions. The second stanza looked livelier. Masika had an attempt on goal in the 55th minute but was denied by Njunge, at the other end Davis Agesa failed to connect his header whilst unmarked in the 58th minute.Masika did finally get his goal in the 63rd minute. He left City Stars left-back Bolton Omwenga for the dead before unleashing a left-foot shot that went past Njunge. Nicholas Kipkirui missed a great chance to draw City Stars level in the 72nd minute but when he attempted an overheard kick instead of an easy finish, Wazito defenders reacted quickly to clear the danger.Nine minutes from time, Dennis Sikhayi pulled a goal-line clearance to deny City Stars the leveller. Masika was denied his second of the game by the crossbar after leaving his marker for the dead. In the Wazito bounced back with a narrow win.
