Roger Federer is through to the second round of Wimbledon despite a nervy opening tie which nearly saw the Swiss star drop out of the tournament. The sixth seed was trailing before French opponent Adrian Mannarino was forced to retire through injury. Elsewhere, there were wins for world No 1 Ash Barty and five-time champion Venus Williams.
