Tusker assistant captain Eugene Asike and midfielder Brian Marita have expressed great delight at booking a spot in the prestigious CAF Champions League and putting an end to a four-year absence from the continental scene.Going into the final deciding match scheduled to be played on the set June 30th deadline when the champions league participant would be confirmed, Tusker, who had a one-point advantage over second-placed KCB, needed to get all three points to comfortably ensure they grab that single spot, as any other result would put the game out of their own hands.Despite an early scare in the ninth minute when Boniface Okinyi rocked Tusker’s boat with an opening Ulinzi Stars goal, an emphatic 4 – 1 win courtesy of a fortunate equalizing own goal before goals apiece from Marita, Christopher Ochieng’ and Kevin Okoth ensured the Brewers completed the turnaround and did just what needed to be done in order to book the ticket back to continental football since their last appearance in 2017.The harder the battle, the sweeter the victory.#KenyaMilele #Brewers4Life pic.twitter.com/Wq48SRFNKy— Tusker FC (@tusker_fc) June 30, 2021 Asike on his part, cheekily took to his social media to acknowledge that feat while at the same time quickly shifting his focus on the league that has ten matches to play.“Hi CAF is that you? Qualification for champions league football done. Now all to play for in the league,” Asike posted.Hi @CAF_Online is that you?Qualification for champions league football done. Now all to play for in the league…c’mon @tusker_fc 🐘 pic.twitter.com/lvnOGOcoie— Eugene Asike (@eugeneasike) July 1, 2021 Marita who scored the second goal of the game in that win over Ulinzi also expressed his pleasure at grabbing the slot.“The sweetest victory comes after the hardest battle. Thank God for the goal and the win. Well done mates,” Marita also posted. The last time Tusker played in the CAF Champions League was in 2017 and the club failed to make it out of the preliminary rounds as Port Louis of Mauritius defeated the Brewers 3-1 on aggregate, striker Ephrem Guikan, who would later come to join Gor Mahia, scoring all the three goals in the tie.The Brewers now shift their focus to ending their four-year wait for a league title, their last league win coming in the 2016 season.
