Kimanzi explains his squad tinkering in City Stars victory

Wazito FC head coach Francis Kimanzi says he had to rest some of his key players against Nairobi City Stars due to fixtures congestion that has seen FKF Premier League (FKF-PL) teams play two matches per week.On Wednesday the Wazito boss opted to bench some important players for the game that his side went on to win 1-0 courtesy of a Musa Masika second-half strike. Fidel Origa who has started all matches this season was benched, he came on in the final 15 minutes. Kevin Kimani the team’s top scorer was equally introduced late while Amos Asembeka missed the game altogether. When you have to play in midweek and over the weekend it becomes hectic and you have to give some players rest. Amos (Asembeka) had full rest today and he should be fresh for the weekend. Fidel (Origa) was on the bench for 75 minutes and that’s also a good thing. The other guys like Kimani also rested and it’s good because you want to have a fresh team for every assignment and if you can do some rotation and it works then it’s good for the team,” he said.Despite the win, Kimanzi just like his Nairobi City Stars counterpart Sanjin Alagic was critical of Ruaraka Ground’s playing surface saying it made it difficult for them to play their usual passing game.We will be at Ruaraka Grounds on Wednesday afternoon#Wazito4life pic.twitter.com/5VNYJbPvGw— WAZITO FOOTBALL CLUB (@wazitofc) June 28, 2021 “We really couldn’t play our football because the playing surface is not conducive, it was difficult for both teams. We had to adapt and try to get a result under very difficult conditions and it’s a good thing that we won and now we go and prepare for our next game against Posta which is equally important,” he addedUp next for Wazito and Kimanzi is a home match against Posta Rangers on Sunday.
