Matasi set to dump Ethiopian giants

Harambee Stars goalkeeper Patrick Matasi has announced that he will be ending his association with Ethiopian giants, St.George FC when his contract with the club expires in October 2021.Matasi is currently in the country recuperating after he was involved in a road accident last month. The accident left his wife and son requiring surgery which they successfully underwent and are currently recovering at home. The shot-stopper’s contract with the Saints expires in three months and he says that he has already told the club that he will not be continuing with them.“I have already informed them of my decision. I do not wish to continue with them due to personal reasons and I can confirm that I will be leaving the club when my contract expires in October,” Matasi told Mozzart Sport.Matasi says he is currently focusing on being fully ready and is working out at the gym so that any internal injury that he may have picked in the accident is detected.“Right now the focus is healing fully. I have been working out at the gym for the last five days on the recommendation of the doctors. They advised that I hit the gym so that I can pick any underlying issue that may not have been detected during the examinations after the accident,” he added.Resumed exercises today. As you know my family is also recuperating and I have to take care of them. My future will be handled once the medics have cleared me,” he added. The keeper joined the Saints in October 2018 from Tusker FC on a three-year deal. He was solid between the posts for the club until the recently concluded season when he lost the starting berth in the team. The 33-year old started his playing career with the now-defunct West Kenya Sugar FC. A good run with the then second-tier team in the FKF Cup in 2010 where they reached the final before losing to Sofapaka earned him a move to AFC Leopards in 2011. He played for Leopards until 2014, his final season was, however, a disappointing one as he fell out of favour and he opted to move to Posta Rangers where he reinvented himself. In June 2018, Tusker FC came calling and he ended his four-year association with the Mail-men. He would last at Tusker for just four months before crossing over to Ethiopia.
