Mourinho arrived: Roma’s owner piloted the plane, thousands of fans at the airport

The „Special One“ has arrived. Jose Mourinho’s second tenure in Italy has begun in a high note – the Portuguese was picked up by Roma’s owner and thousands of fans greeted him at the airport, hardly a better welcome for the former Inter Milan coach. Mourinho was at his home in Portugal when Roma’s owner Dan Friedkin went personally to pick Mourinho and piloted the plane that brought the coach to Rome. Supporters first gathered at the Ciampino airport where Mourinho landed and then went to Roma’s training center where the manager stepped onto a balcony and waved to the chanting fans below.José Mourinho:🗣️ “I want the team to reflect the personality of the fans. I know what a passion there is, but the amazing thing is that over the past twenty years there haven’t been many opportunities to be happy. However, the passion has never failed.” 🔥#ASRoma #DajeRoma pic.twitter.com/FqhUH8gkU7— Watch The Mou 🇮🇹 (@watchtheMou) July 3, 2021 It’s a dream welcoming for any coach, yet alone Mourinho, who had great success with Inter Milan in his first Italian adventure – winning Serie A and Champions League, among other trophies. The 58-year-old had earlier announced his impending arrival in a video posted on social media, stating: “AS Roma fans I’m about to pack my bags. See you soon.” Waving the club’s yellow and red scarf, Mourinho briefly addressed the crowd before being driven away to the club’s Trigoria training center for the first time.”I’m much better now. I’m serious. I think this is a job where experience means a lot. Since I left Italy I went to Real Madrid, which was an incredible experience, and I reached my dream of winning in Italy, England and Spain. It’s the kind of job where you can only get better until the day where you lose your motivation. One thing is to come to a country for the first time where you arrive level zero and you have everything to learn about it. In my case that’s not the case. I know Italy as a country, I know Italy as a football culture, I know something about Roma because in my Italian time Roma was the real rival fighting for the title“ Mourinho said in an interview on the club’s website. These are the scenes that greeted Jose Mourinho as he landed in Rome to start his new job as manager of Roma! pic.twitter.com/wQu1oWvlH1— The Sun Football ⚽ (@TheSunFootball) July 2, 2021 Mourinho has claimed 25 major trophies in his career but his last one came in 2017, when he won Europa League with Manchester United. He was eventually sacked from his post with the Red Devils, and didn’t have much success with Tottenham either. This is probably his last chance with a big club, and he knows it. We’ll see how he does in Italy for the second time.
