Barely a week after running down his contract with Georgian giants Saburtalo, Kenyan midfielder Alwyn Tera has revealed why he joined former Armenian champions Ararat-Armenia on a two-year deal.Tera parted ways with Saburtalo on Wednesday 30th June, ending his six-year association with the club after joining back in 2015 where he scored nine times in 154 matches with the club.Speaking to Mozzart Sport, Tera revealed why he signed for Ararat immediately after his contract expired with Saburtalo.”I decided to sign with Ararat because my residency was expiring on the same day my contract ended on 30th June, I had the option of coming back to Kenya but at the same time, I did not want to come and get stranded because I already had a contract with Ararat. 🚨JUST IN🚨Alwyn Tera leaves Georgian club Saburtalo after 6 years with the club. The Kenyan midfielder made 154 appearances and scored 9 times. All the best in your next club Tera. #FFP #StarsAbroad🇰🇪 pic.twitter.com/x60tRcs95M— Friends of Football (@friendsofutball) July 1, 2021 “My idea was to get a better deal but that would have meant I wait till July or August and I couldn’t stay in Europe waiting, I was to return home so I signed with Ararat to avoid coming to Kenya,” said Tera.Ararat won back to back titles from 2018 to 2020 which remains their only league titles after the club was established back in 2017 with the new season set to kick-off at the start of August. The former Laiser Hill Academy midfielder has been a vital cog in the Saburtalo wheel, winning the league back in 2018 and was named on the bench in the Team of the Season. In 2019, Tera bagged the FA Cup but the team had an underwhelming season last campaign, finishing fifth on the log and missed out on a UEFA Conference League place. The 24-year-old however noted that since signing with Ararat a number of clubs have been courting him after failing to extend his stay with Saburtalo,”Kenyan midfielder Alwyn Tera yesterday helped FC Saburtalo win the Georgian Super Cup trophy after beating Dynamo Tsiblisi 1-0 in the Finals. #TheScoreKE pic.twitter.com/5XyxZyPdOF— Carol Radull (@CarolRadull) February 24, 2020 “I didn’t want to take a risk and come home to gamble with the hope that a club would sign me while I had an offer from Ararat, it was challenging to make the decision at first but later more clubs but that is after I signed,” added Tera.Tera will leave fellow Kenyan midfielder Amos Nondi in Georgia who plies his trade with Dila Gori after joining from Gor Mahia.
