Gor Mahia skipper Harun Shakava is confident the club can do the double for the first time in 34 years after bagging the Football Kenya Federation (Cup) on Sunday against arch-rivals AFC Leopards. Despite winning their ninth FKF Cup on Sunday, the league and cup double has eluded K’Ogalo for a number of years with the last time the club came close to achieving the feat was back in 2012 when they lost the title on the final day of the season.Shakava however believes that Gor Mahia are capable of doing the double for the first time since 1987 when they also bagged the Mandela Cup as they currently trail log leaders Tusker by eight points. Shakava also produced arguably the biggest talking point of the cup final but still maintains innocence after AFC Leopard’s penalty shout was waved away.At the stroke of the hour mark, Shakava tackled Elvis Rupia who was threatening to breach the defence but replays showing the former Kakamega Homeboyz defender missing the ball.Peter Waweru’s decision not to award the penalty did not sit down well with AFC Leopards as head coach Patrick Aussems called out the incident in his post-match interview. The former Nkana FC defender chose not to dwell on the incident but insisted that the referee failed to blow the whistle for a penalty which handed them a reprieve.🟢 | 2021 FKF CUP CHAMPIONS #Sirkal | #Betsafe pic.twitter.com/D95A81dTh1— 🏆 – GOR MAHIA FC (@OfficialGMFC) July 4, 2021 “I cannot really dwell much on the penalty because it was the referee’s decision to award the penalty but if he gave it I would have accepted his decision,”“The referee did not make the call and we as players usually play to the whistle and I cannot judge whether it was a penalty or not, the referee did not blow the whistle and it was an advantage to us,” said Shakava.
