Wanyama skippers Montreal to fifth win of season

Harambee Stars midfielder Victor Wanyama was once again entrusted with the armband as CF Montreal downed New York City City 2-1 on Thursday morning to register back to back wins for the first time this season.Wanyama clocked full time in the match which they broke sweat to bag maximum points as Montrealrallied from a goal down to register a hard-fought win, their fifth of the campaign. The win saw Montreal rise to fourth on the log with 19 points. In earning a second consecutive win while captaining the team, Wanyama expressed his delight with the team’s performance in the last two games.“Another win tonight, we keep the momentum going,” he posted on Instagram. The match staged at Exploria Stadium in Orlando, got off to an explosive start as Romell Quioto found the back of the net barely 44 seconds in the match. The goal, however, did not count as the linesman ruled that the Honduras midfielder had been in an offside position.Almost half an hour after surviving that early scare, Keaton Parks scored the first goal of the game for New York after he found himself in the right place at the right time to drive in a teasing cutback pass from Libyan international Ismael Tajouri into the bottom right corner in the 29th minute. That lead only lasted thirteen minutes though as Montreal’s Mason Toye restored parity in the game from a spot-kick awarded with just two minutes left before the halftime interval. The penalty was given after defender Sebastian Ibeagha was adjudged to have brought down 22-year-old Djorde Mihailovic in the danger area, Toye sending the keeper the wrong way with his perfect spot-kick.Quioto, who had been denied a goal by the fourth official in the opening minute, would have no charges to answer in the 73rd minute as he rounded the New York goalkeeper to give his side the lead and complete the turnaround.
