Western Stima ace confident team will beat the drop

The Power-men are currently 15th in the FKF Premier League (FKF-PL) log with 17 points, three more than bottom-placed Mathare United who have played a game less. The season has been a difficult one for the Kisumu-based side largely due to financial struggles after Kenya Power pulled out of sponsoring the team.In recent weeks they have managed to get some positive results. They beat Gor Mahia 2-1 despite being a man down a fortnight ago and on Monday they fought from two goals down to draw 2-2 with Kariobangi Sharks and these positive results give the veteran defender confidence that the team will not drop down to the second tier.“We will not be relegated. We are currently working hard to get out of that relegation area and if you see how we have been playing in recent weeks then you can see that it is just a matter of time before we start winning consistently, we will definitely move up in the table in the coming days,” he told Mozzart Sport.TABLE|This is current #FKFPL table after the draw between K. Wastefulness has been their major undoing as opponents have been making them pay for not taking their opportunities and Akumu admits they need to do better in the attack.“We have been unlucky in some games, we are creating a lot of chances which sometimes we do not take and when the opponent gets one or two they utilize and beat us. Making use of our opportunities is something that we have to look at, we have to be clinical because the only way to win a game is through outscoring the opponent or getting a goal and defending the advantage well,” he added. Akumu opines that the team’s character and spirit have improved immensely and that they are ready to beat the drop in the coming weeks.“The team spirit is good, against Sharks we fought from two goals down to get a 2-2 draw and we had many good chances which if we had taken things would have been different. The mentality and character the team is exhibiting is good at this stage of the league, remember against Gor Mahia we won a man down, mentally we are strong and we are ready for this battle,” he continued.Next for Stima is a match against Ulinzi Stars in Nakuru.
