Baron ready to step up and help Stima escape relegation

Ex-Gor Mahia player Baron Oketch, who currently turns out for Kisumu based Western Stima, is banking on his experience and positive mentality to bail out the Abdallah Juma coached side that currently finds itself sitting precariously in 15th position, just one point above the relegation places.Stima, Mathare United, Nzoia Sugar and Vihiga United could potentially suffer relegation with only ten games left before the season concludes. Despite picking only three wins in the twenty three games they have so far played this season, the stubborn Stima winger is hoping a small tweak in mentality can go a long way in helping his side maintain their top-flight status“Our main objective right now is to approach all our remaining games with the aim of winning. We do not want to go into the match with a defensive mindset or with a motive of just getting a point out of the game. We want to aim for the sky, so that if anything goes wrong, we still have something to land on because the moment we start thinking negatively, it will definitely have an effect on us,” the winger said. With sporting activities in the western parts of the country suspended due to the increasing numbers of the deadly covid-19 Delta variant, Stima are even more disadvantaged as they have to play their remaining home games away from their preferred venue.Having that unfortunate circumstance in mind, the winger who has scored six goals in the ongoing campaign has emphasized on the importance of the team bracing themselves mentally in the final stretch if they are to save themselves.“I cannot say that we are definitely going to win all of the matches left. We are unfortunate to lose our home advantage because we were to play most of the remaining games at home. But it is not something we can control and we just have to focus because it is like we are playing all the games away now. We just have to fight and get a win,” he said.Stima next take on fellow strugglers Nzoia Sugar, who are one place ahead of them in the league standings, with a golden chance of pushing further away from the drop zone.
