In form Kariobangi Sharks striker Erick Kapaito was once again on target against Posta Rangers on Saturday and took his goal tally for the season to nineteen goals. The striker got the opener for the Sharks as they went on to win 3-0 against Stanley Okumbi-led Mailmen at the Ruaraka Grounds. Kapaito has now scored 19 goals in 24 games. Second-placed Elvis Rupia of AFC Leopards has found the back of the net 14 times while Sofapaka’s Lawrence Juma has scored 12 times. Henry Meja of Tusker FC and Bandari’s William Wadri have ten goals each. With eight games, the Harambee Stars striker is widening the gap and it is highly unlikely that the likes of Rupia will catch up with him. Kapaito has already surpassed the 16 goals that helped him win the golden boot in 2018. Boniface Ambani’s record of 26 goals a season is also well within his reach and the record that has stood for 15 years could be smashed by the Sharks captain. This guy Erick Kapaito is in good form this season. The guy has 19 goals to his name so far. With more than 10 games to go he can still score a couple of goals. @Kevin_teya #FKFPL— Lloyd Onyango (@lloydOnyango) July 10, 2021 In an interview, Kapaito revealed that his target for the season was to hit the 20-goal mark but believes that he can shatter the record set by the former Kenyan international in 2006 while turning out for Tusker FC.“I’m taking it game by game but if I continue with the form that I’m in currently I’m sure I will get to 26 goals but I first want to achieve 20 goals then think of getting to the record,” he told Mozzart Sport. His goal-scoring exploits not only put him ahead in the race for the golden boot but he is also a top candidate for the league player of the year award as, despite his team’s struggles in the league, he has been very consistent throughout the season.Rumours are rife in Tanzania that the goal poacher could either join Yanga or Azam with Sharks eager to cash in on him before his contract lapses.
