AFC Leopards defender Robert Mudenyu is a happy man after scoring his first goal for the club against Bandari on Friday last week. The central defender scored Ingwe’s opener shortly after the restart before Peter Thiong’o added a second as Ingwe bounced back from last weekend’s FKF Cup upset with a 2-0 triumph over the dockers at the Thika Sub-County Stadium. The match was Mudenyu’s fourth of the season. His appearances for the club have been largely restricted by injuries. He has had issues with his knee and harmstring and the player says he is happy to have finally broken the duck and hopes to get more.“It definitely feels good to get my first goal for Leopards. At my former clubs I was a scoring defender and I have been waiting to get my first for Ingwe and today I got it, hopefully, it opens doors for more goals,” he told Mozzart Sport.🥇 Robert Mudenyu 🥇First @AFCLeopards goalSuper performance from the centre back#LeopardsVsBandari #BKPL pic.twitter.com/0KnuSAErxv— Betking Kenya Premier League (@Officialfkfpl) July 9, 2021 Mudenyu joined Ingwe from Sony Sugar in 2019 he has however made a handful of appearances due to endless injuries and the defender hopes that the injury nightmare is now over as he wants to play consistently. “It has been a long battle with injuries and they have really derailed me, this was my fourth game of the season and maybe if I were fit I would have played more. But I am happy that the injury nightmare is now behind me, I want to enjoy playing more and contributing to the success of the team,” he added. With nine games to go, Ingwe trail leaders Tusker FC by seven points and Mudenyu believes the title race is far from over.“As long as it’s mathematically possible to win it, we will keep fighting, football can be unpredictable and so we will continue to give our best and see what happens in the next few games. Our goal is to get a minimum of 21 points in the remaining games and see where we end up,” he concluded.FULL TIME AFC Leopards 2 Bandari FC 0’48 Robert Mudenyu ’81 Peter Thiong’o Good job yamatere#FKFPL#SportsArenake pic.twitter.com/moSlF5X0ri— Carol Radull (@CarolRadull) July 9, 2021 Next for Leopards is a game against the Brewers.
