The 149th Open Championship, referred to as the British Open to many golf fans, is this week at Royal St. George’s in England.
The course is on the southeast coast on England in Sandwich, about two hours east of London.
It’s the oldest of the four majors on the men’s circuit and it recently upped the ante in terms of its payout. On July 1, the R&A, which runs the event, announced it’s increasing the total purse and the first-place prize, putting it on equal footing with the Masters.
But it’s not the biggest payout of the four majors. Here’s a closer look.
