Momanyi on his way out of Gor Mahia

Gor Mahia defender Charles Momanyi’s four year stay at the club has come to a sour end according to the team’s immediate head coach Manuel Vaz Pinto.Pinto threw in the towel on Friday evening and returned to Portugal citing family issues as the reason for quitting although, in his latest interview, he says financial challenges played a part in his departure. The former St. George FC coach, who has been linked with a move to Portuguese club CD Nacional discussed financial issues the team has been facing that resulted in striker Nicholas Kipkirui leaving for Nairobi City Stars in March and now Momanyi, who is a KCB, and Tusker FC target has also packed his bags and left.In June, Momanyi wrote to the club demanding they release him over non-payment of salary and lack of playtime as the emergence of youngster Frank Odhiambo has reduced him to a fringe player in the team. Momanyi joined Gor Mahia in June 2018 from Kakamega Homeboyz“Every day was a problem at the club, Kipkirui left and now Charles left every day is a problem in the team because there is no money. Alpha (Onyango) has a small injury but needs some treatment but there is no money for treatment, it was a difficult season, very difficult” Pinto said in an interview posted by the club.Little KnownEric Ambunya (L) and Charles Momanyi at Kakamega Homeboyz, 2017 PL season.#footke pic.twitter.com/O5IYLJxJRB— Footballers Of Our Time (@TransferMarktEA) May 20, 2021 The coach also disclosed that he had received a salary for only two of the six months that he was with the club. He is however open to a return to the club if the team’s fortunes change for the better.“I have worked for six months but two weeks ago the club only paid me my January and February salary. I have bills, I have my family and I could not continue like this……and I know if everything I okay in the club after a few months I can come back,” he continued.“When you are outside your country, everything is supposed to be okay but it was a hard time but I gave my best and after the final of the Cup I thought my job was done because when I came no one believed that Gor could win something this season but we won the cup,”.Assistant coach Sammy Omolo has since taken over on an interim basis.
