Vihiga eye first win over Bandari

Vihiga United will be searching for their first Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKFPL) win over Bandari when the two sides clash at the ASK Grounds in Nakuru on Tuesday.Since their first season in the top flight in 2018, Vihiga have never taken three points from Bandari and will be hoping to capitalize on their recent awful run and break the winless jinx.Vihiga have lost all the five meetings and to add salt to injury, Mike Mururi’s charges who let in five unanswered goals in the first leg have never found the back of the net in the fixture. The match was initially set to be played last month at the Mumias Sports Complex but was postponed just a day to the fixture after the government suspended sporting activities in the Lake Region.Apart from seeking their first win over Bandari, the league returnees will be out to arrest their four-match winless run as well as ease their relegation fears.Mpango mzima Kesho ✊ pic.twitter.com/iWFB7gZNcP— Bandari Football Club (@BandariOfficial) July 12, 2021 The county government-sponsored club has picked a point in the last four games a run which increasingly puts them at the risk of being ejected from the top flight for the second time as they sit second from bottom with sixteen points.Ahead of the match, the club’s centre back Norman Werunga has promised to mastermind their first win over the visitors and their fourth in the campaign despite missing their forward Dennis Kalama who is injured.”We have been unlucky in the last four matches as we have been close to picking maximum points. We have worked on our weak areas and I can assure that Bandari will have it rough. We desperately need to win to redeem our image and remain in the top flight,” said the former Zoo FC player. As Vihiga will be gunning for the first victory over Bandari, the latter will be pursuing to bounce back to winning ways after failing to pick maximum points in their last three encounters. The former Cup holders lost 2-0 to AFC Leopards last week and had initially played Nairobi City Stars and defending champions Gor Mahia to one all and barren draws respectively.

Skipper Bernard Odhiambo is self assured that they will put Vihiga to the sword for the sixth time. “We picked valuable lessons from our last match against Leopards. The coach has addressed the problem and we are looking forward to a win,” said the defender.
