Nzoia Sugar decry poor officiating in four goal thriller

Nzoia Sugar keepers’ coach Peter Mwaura has taken a swipe at match officials after they were denied what they thought was a stoppage-time winner against Western Stima on Tuesday in Nakuru.Felicien Okanda thought he had earned his side all the three points in stoppage time at ASK Grounds only for the assistant referee to raise his flag, the match ended in a 2-2 draw. Nzoia twice fought from a goal down to salvage a point. Baron Oketch gave Stima a first-half lead before Joseph Njuguna drew Nzoia level shortly after the restart. Rodgers Ouma restored the Power-men’s lead in the 77th minute before Kevin Juma earned Nzoia a point in the 89th minute. The decision to disallow Okanda’s goal did not go well with Mwaura who feels they were denied a win by poor officiating. “Okanda was nowhere near offside, the referee denied us a clear goal and it is demoralizing because the boys fought really hard, we should have won the game but an officiating mistake cost us,” he told Mozzart Sport.🟢| FULL-TIMEIt’s a draw in Nakuru#BKPL pic.twitter.com/WRGBmPFq4n— Betking Kenya Premier League (@Officialfkfpl) July 13, 2021 Reflecting on the game, Mwaura lauded his team’s fighting spirit. He said they showed a strong character to twice fight from a goal down to salvage a point.“We played very well, we twice went down but the boys showed a good character and fighting spirit to equalize twice and that shows that mentally we are becoming stronger and we can only get better, and I am confident that we will end the season strongly. Both teams were attacking and it was a good game to watch in the end we shared the points,” he added.Next for Nzoia is a match against inform Kakamega Homeboyz and Mwaura says they head back home to prepare for the clash against their neighbors that will be played in Nakuru on Saturday afternoon.“We do not have time to rest, we go back home to prepare for Saturday’s game against Kakamega Homeboyz, it is a difficult game but a winnable one if we prepare well,” he concluded.
