Ulinzi Stars extended their dominance over Wazito as they bounced back to winning ways after four matches following a 2-1 win over the Francis Kimanzi-led charges in a rescheduled Football Kenya Federation Premier League match played at the Nakuru ASK Grounds on Wednesday afternoon.First half goals from Mark Bikokwa, who ended a six year goal drought, and a Johnstone Omurwa own goal were enough for Ulinzi to gun down the visitors despite a late resurgence that saw Kevin Kimani pull one back for Wazito.The soldiers, winless in their last three games, started brightly as they set a marker early in the game. As soon as the eighth minute, the Benjamin Nyangweso coached side had already hit the back of the net but their celebrations were cut short after the linesman ruled out the effort for offside.Shortly after that, momentum swung back in Wazito’s favour and the Kimanzi-led side threatened to capitalize on their dominance. Just in the 13th minute, James Saruni made a case as to why he has the most clean sheets this season after his quick reflexes denied Wazito from finding the opening goal in what looked like a clear chance. A minute later, this time with the keeper well beaten though, the cross bar came to Ulinzi’s rescue as it denied Kimani’s free kick from hitting the back of the net.Against the run of play, in the 20th minute, Mark Bikokwa ended his six year goal drought at Ulinzi when he pounced to score the opening goal for the soldiers. The striker scoring his first league goal since joining from Nzoia Sugar in December 2015. So overjoyed he was that he ended up being booked for removing his jersey while engaging in the deserved wild celebrations. That first goal soon led to the second as Brian Birgen converted in the 33rd minute to give Ulinzi Stars some cushion heading into the half time interval.The second half saw Wazito probe on a couple of times but their efforts failed to trouble Saruni in the Ulinzi goal just yet. It is a subdued Ulinzi that almost came close to burying the game when Oscar Wamalwa tried to audaciously chip the ball over Fredrick Odhiambo in the Wazito goal. His idea was however thwarted as the goalkeeper saved the effort in the 74th minute.With just eleven minutes to time, Wazito were again handed a free kick in a dangerous position just outside the area and Kimani stepped up once again. This time though there would be nothing to deny him as his clean strike beat both the wall, keeper and crossbar to pull one back for Wazito and hand them a lifeline in the final ten minutes. While Wazito had the ascendancy towards the closing stages of the games, a resolute Ulinzi hang on to the narrow advantage to see out the contest in their favour as they returned to winning ways.With the three points, Ulinzi jumped up to 10th on the log while Wazito stagnate in 9th.
