Blissful Bikokwa savours end of five-year dry spell

Ulinzi Stars forward Mark Bikokwa is elated after opening his league goals account with the Soldiers since joining join them in 2016 after a stellar performance with Nzoia Sugar in the second tier the previous season in a man-of-the-match performance against Wazito FC.The striker, who had scored once for the soldiers but in the GoTv cup in 2018, said that he was happy with the league goal, adding that he had been looking for it for so long and it would now propel him to go for more.”I’m happy for the goal. It had been long since I scored for Ulinzi Stars. The last time I scored for the team was in the GoTv cup in 2018. I have been looking for that goal, hit the woodwork, seen the ball cleared, goalkeeper denies me but finally, I managed to score and I will keep working hard for more,” the former Nzoia man said.🥇 Our man of the match 🥇Mark Bikokwa#UlinziVsWazito#BKPL pic.twitter.com/wqb2c2jdnG— Betking Kenya Premier League (@Officialfkfpl) July 14, 2021 The Bukembe Boys High School product said that going for so long without scoring in the league was not easy for him as a striker, having in mind that strikers are mostly defined by the goals they score. He went ahead to note that in the remaining eight games for the Soldiers, he is targetting to find the back of the net at least four times.”It has not been easy at a personal level. What defines a striker is goals and lack of goals has been disturbing me. I have been working hard in training, sometimes I get the chance to play, and other times I did not but I never gave up. I know more will come after this game and in the remaining 8 games, I know I can get four or five games,” Bikokwa noted.Mark Bikokwa joined Ulinzi Stars in December 2015 from Nzoia Sugar FC.The striker has just scored his first league goal for the soldiers. In my time at Ulinzi, I have never started three consecutive games. In football, you grow by playing, and if you’re not playing it gets so hard at times but everyone at Ulinzi has trusted me. We will work as a team to achieve our end goal at the end of the season,” he added.Bikokwa was a top performer in 2015 Nzoia Sugar both in their quest for promotion to the top tier as well as in their GoTv Cup campaign where they exited in the quarters and was roped in by Ulinzi Stars just ahead of the 2016 season after guiding Nzoia to promotion.Ulinzi Stars Unveils Mark Bikokwa, Joseph Kuria & Biron Odiaga new signings Today at Afrahab stadium @Hero_Radio pic.twitter.com/xXtEJJ1t6h— AUGUSTINE NGIGI (@AUGUSTINENGIGI) January 30, 2016
