Crisis at Gor Mahia with upto seven players out of City Stars fixture

After completely missing out from matchday 25 roster, Kenyan champions Gor Mahia are set to resume league duties on Saturday with a pulsating clash against high flying Nairobi City Stars. However, it is not rosy at all for the defending Champions who could miss up to seven key players for the crucial fixture. Sammy Pamzo Omollo will be the man in charge following the departure of Vaz Pinto and will be without Frank Odhiambo, Geoffrey Ochieng, Kenneth Muguna, Joachim Oluoch, Andrew Roma Juma, Charles Momanyi, and Alpha Onyango. The exit Pinto means that Pamzo will be in charge of K’Ogalo, and he will have to kickstart his tenure as the head coach with a mini-crisis, as he called it but the former Gor Mahia defender is upbeat that they will do their best to manage the situation.”I have only four defenders left, and even Roma (Juma) is doubtful as he is set to attend a funeral so that leaves only three. That leaves only Shakava, Philemon, and Nkata. We will have to use a makeshift defense against City Stars. Muguna will also not feature, he has not trained with the team. It will be a mini-crisis for us,” Pamzo said.Fast-rising Gor Mahia centerback Frank Odhiambo lauds captain Shakava for being the guiding light for him so far in the teamhttps://t.co/ujuGaxrZlU— Mozzart Sport Kenya (@MozzartSportKe) June 11, 2021 While Frank is out for national team duty with the U-23 side in Ethiopia, Ochieng will miss the game on suspension after accumulating five yellow cards. Alpha and Joachim will miss the match with injury while Juma will be out on compassionate leave.Tanzania-bound Muguna has not trained with the team this week thus will most likely not be part of the team that will take on Sanjin Alagic’s charges at Ruaraka Grounds on Saturday.Departed coach Pinto revealed that Momanyi left the club after writing to them demanding they release him over non-payment of salary and lack of playtime following the emergence of youngster Frank which has reduced him to a fringe player. On demand Kenyan International Kenneth Muguna could be on his way to Tanzanian side Azam according to our impeccable sourceshttps://t.co/SRBVVEn5B1— Mozzart Sport Kenya (@MozzartSportKe) July 8, 2021 Worse still, the absence of Frank, Ochieng, and Juma means that Gor Mahia have only two of their preferred five defenders, Harun Shakava and Philemon Otieno, in the 5-man defense which has been a revelation formation for them.Frank, Alpha, Muguna, Ochieng’, and Juma have all been first-team players for the reigning champions, and missing all of them in one game will be such a big blow for the team.”They have been having a very good run. The mini-crisis has come at a very bad time but we will just try to manage. These are players that have been very consistent in their performances, having them not part of the team will be a blow for us,” the tactician said added.Charles Momanyi has left Gor Mahia according to exiting coach, Vaz Pinto.Momanyi had last month written to the club requesting for the termination of his contract over nonpayment of his salary.
