Dominant Al Ahly outclass Chiefs to lift record tenth African crown

Africa’s most successful club, Al Ahly, under the guidance of Pitso Mosimane showed their quality and class yet again as they secured back to back continental titles and grabbed a record-extending tenth crown as they outclassed South African giants Kaizer Chiefs 3-0 in the CAF Champions League final held at Stade Mohammed V in Casablanca, Morocco on Saturday night.Although against a ten man opposition, a second half masterclass from Al Ahly ended Kaizer Chiefs’ fairy tale run in the CAF Champions League as the Egyptian champions successfully defended their title and added a tenth star to their crests.⌚ FULL TIME!@AlAhly cruise past @KaizerChiefs in a comfortable 3-0 victory in the #TotalEnergiesCFACL final! 🦅👏#KCFCASC pic.twitter.com/0iYnBQeGET— TotalEnergies CAFCL – TotalEnergies CAFCC 🏆 (@CAFCLCC) July 17, 2021 Second half goals from Mohammed Sherif, Mohamed Magdi Afsha and Amr El Soulia ensured Al Ahly got the ‘Al-Ashera’ – the equivalent of La Decima – and booked their spot in the 2021 FIFA Club World Cup that will take place in Japan later on in December.Chiefs, who were playing in their first ever Champions League final in their history, largely managed to keep off any danger in the entire first half but a game changing moment ensued deep at the end of the half when Happy Mashiane, after VAR intervention, was sent off for serious foul play to see the Amakhosi reduced to ten men. With a one man advantage, Al Ahly came out charging in the second half as they sensed an opportunity to run riot. Just nine minutes in, Sherif was the first to take advantage as he got on the end of a defense splitting through pass from Akram Tawfik, the striker coolly lobbing the ball past an onrushing Daniel Akpeyi in the Chief’s goal to hand Ahly the opener. The legend @TheRealPitso 3-time African Champion 🏆🏆🏆 2016✅2020✅2021✅📸Al Ahly#CAFCLFinal #CAFCL pic.twitter.com/JDg7q6hpzo— Mozzart Sport Kenya (@MozzartSportKe) July 17, 2021 Ten minutes later, in the 64th minute, star man Afsha grabbed the second goal of the game with a well finessed shot that left Akpeyi rooted to the ground. With possession and ascendancy all on their side, an unmarked Al Soulia put the game beyond any reasonable doubt for Al Ahly when he thundered in a third for his side after being teed up by Sherif, a goal that proved to be the final one on the scoreboard as they became the first side in African history to clinch ten titles.🏆 🏆 🏆 🏆 🏆 ⭐ 𝐂 𝐇 𝐀 𝐌 𝐏 𝟏 𝟎 𝐍 𝐒 ⭐🏆 🏆 🏆 🏆 🏆 @AlAhly become the 𝐟𝐢𝐫𝐬𝐭 ever team to lift the #TotalEnergiesCAFCL 𝐭𝐫𝐨𝐩𝐡𝐲 🔟 𝐭𝐢𝐦𝐞𝐬. pic.twitter.com/9rLe8ROd4g— TotalEnergies CAFCL – TotalEnergies CAFCC 🏆 (@CAFCLCC) July 17, 2021 In the end, the Egyptian side proved just too good for an inexperienced Chiefs who had beaten all odds to get to the finals. Ahly’s tally of ten African crowns is now double that of their nearest challengers, with city rivals Zamalek and DR Congo’s TP Mazembe both tied on five apiece.
