Kariobangi Sharks worsened Vihiga United’s relegation fears after beating the strugglers 4-0 in an FKF Premier League match staged at the Thika Sub-County Stadium on Saturday afternoon.Heading into the game, Sharks were clear favorites while Vihiga, who are two points above bottom-placed Mathare United needed to win in order in order to ease drop fears. As expected, the match went Sharks’ way as Erick Kapaito took his tally for the season to 21 with a brace while James Mazembe scored one and set up two.”We made mistakes especially at the back. Our defending was not so good as a team and that’s something that we have to go back and work on. We still have seven games more games to go and I believe that we still have a fighting chance. I am confident that we will not go down,” Vihiga assistant coach Samuel Twago said.Sharks coach William Muluya was elated with the team’s overall snow.”It was a good game, the first time that we led 3-0 at halftime and I am happy with our performance overall. Leading 3-0 in the first half eased pressure in the second half and we played the ball more. We should have scored more because we had a penalty which we missed but overall I can’t complain about today’s show, ” he saidSharks made a perfect start when they went ahead in the 7th minute through Erick Kapaito. James Mazembe picked the Sharks skipper with a perfectly weighted cross and he did the rest, heading past Mustafa Oduor on Vihiga goal.Mazembe then turned scorer in the 15th minute when he fired past Oduor after connecting to a clever through-ball from Reagan Odede. Things went from bad to worse in the 37th minute when Peter Lwasa bundled home the third from another Mazembe assist.Vihiga barely threatened the hosts but had a rare couple of chances that Lawrence Luvanda, Isaac Otieno and Michael Odongo threw away.Coach Mike Mururi made two alterations after the interval bringing on Mark Okola and Kevin Omondi for Prince Ayieko and Patrick, the changes meant to solidify the team’s backline to prevent Sharks from inflicting further damage.Sharks got a fourth through Kapaito in the 64th minute. The striker fired home from a Patillah Omoto free-kick delivery to inflict further damage on Mike Mururi’s side.Sharks continued to dominate proceedings and Robert Onyango who had been impressive for the better part of the game should have found the back of the net in 81st minute but his connection to a Mazembe cross inside the area miraculously went wide. Kapaito had a chance to get his second hattrick from the spot in the 88th minute but Mustafa Oduor pulled a huge save to deny him.
