Sharks ready to maul limping Vihiga United

Kariobangi Sharks will be looking for a second win in a row when they entertain relegation-threatened Vihiga United in a Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKFPL) match in Thika on Saturday afternoon.Sharks put three past Posta Rangers a week ago at the Ruaraka Grounds and a match against the relegation battlers presents them with a great opportunity to get back to back wins for the first time in ten games.Eric Kapaito leads the scoring chart in the league and against one of the leakiest backlines in the league this season, he has a chance of adding to his tally. Vihiga have let in 30 goals this season, only Western Stima and Mathare United have conceded more goals. The Sharks’ backline has equally been shaky and they have let in 29 in 24 games. Sharks will however be without Brian Bwire, Fredrick Alushula, and Boniface Mwangemi who are part of the Kenya U23 team in Ethiopia. Samuel Olwande, Patrick Ngunyi, and Patrick Otieno remain long-term absentees.🥅| In the first leg we emerged victorious courtesy of Kapaito’s 83rd minute strike.🗞️| This weekend we go again against Vihiga United.💭| How do you think this one will pan out?#WeAreSharks #BetwaySharks pic.twitter.com/grRayQpDRK— Kariobangi Sharks FC (@k_sharksfc) July 15, 2021 Vihiga on the other hand have everything to play for. They are deep in the danger zone, two points ahead of bottom-placed Mathare United and a defeat today will push them further towards relegation. The team’s main undoing has been in attack, they are just not scoring enough goals. In 24 games, they have scored just ten goals and that’s an area they must fix if they are to avoid the drop. Vihiga do not have any major injury concerns. In the last five meetings, Sharks have picked two wins, two defeats, and a draw while Vihiga have registered four defeats and a draw. The first leg between the two sides played in Mumias ended in a 1-0 win for Sharks.Vihiga United goalkeeper Mustafa Oduor understands what is at stake heading into the clash against William Muluya’s charges.“The match is important for us because we are currently fighting the relegation. We have to fight, we have to show a strong character against Sharks if we are to get anything out of the game. If we stick to our game plan then I believe anything is possible,” he told Mozzart Sport.
