Kagera Sugar head coach Francis Baraza has admitted that the fight to avoid relegation from the Tanzanian Premier League was a tough one and wants to beef up the team ahead of next season’s campaign.Baraza joined Kagera in May when he ditched another Tanzanian side, Biashara United. He shocked many when he dumped United who were fourth in the league for the sugar-belt side that was battling relegation, the team’s safety was assured on Sunday, the last day of the season.For a second successive season, the former Kenyan international found himself battling the drop. Last season he took over at Biashara when they were in the drop zone and lifted them to a ninth-place finish. This year Kagera finished in the 12th position.In an interview, Baraza admitted that this year’s drop fight with Kagera was a tough one but is delighted that they finally managed to retain their top league status.“I want to thank God for enabling us to remain in the league. This was a very tough battle because as you know I joined the team midway through the season and they were not performing so well and so I had to work with the team I found, I pushed them, and fortunately, we managed to remain in the league,” he told Mozzart Sport.Coach Francis Baraza switches clubs in Tanzania.He has left Biashara United for Kagera Sugar.Good luck Barry. pic.twitter.com/ZixdVSYU2R— Ole Teya (@Kevin_teya) March 14, 2021 Baraza is already thinking about next season and he is urging the club’s hierarchy to invest more in the team so that they can be competitive in the league next season.“Right now I am urging the management to invest more in the team, if we are to have a good team and perform better next season then they ought to put more money in the team. The Sponsor (Azam) has invested some good money in the league and if our management can put in the money in the team then we will definitely do well next season,” he added.On signings, Baraza said he will bring on board up to seven signings.“We have identified areas that we need to beef up. We need two central defenders, one holding midfielder, a left-back, a left-winger, and two forwards and we will be good to go,” he concluded.
