With two events left in points race, APGA heads to TPC Deere Run

The Lexus Cup points race is heating up on the Advocates Professional Golf Association Tour.

With two events left, including Monday and Tuesday at TPC Deere Run in Silvis, Illinois, which hosted the John Deere Classic just eight days ago.

The winner of the points race also earns Player of the Year honors and two golfers appear to be in great shape, as Ryan Alford (1280 points) leads Marcus Byrd by 13 points.

Alford, in his first year on the tour, won the TPC Scottsdale event in April. Byrd won the most recent event, the APGA Tour New Orleans. Rovonta Young, third in points with 1005, won the APGA Tour World Golf Village tournament in March. Each win is worth 600 points.

The field for the 36-hole event also features Willie Mack III, who made the cut in consecutive PGA Tour events, including the John Deere Classic. He was the 2019 APGA Player of the Year.

In addition, the top four players in the APGA Collegiate Rankings are in the tournament: Mulbe Dillard IV, Mahindra Lutchman, Cameron Riley and Prince Cunningham, all of Florida A&M, are in thanks to a partnership with the PGA Tour’s PGA University.

The final regular season event of the year is the APGA Tour Championship. It’ll be held Aug. 8-10 at TPC Sugarloaf in Duluth, Georgia.

Prior to that is a non-points event, the inaugural Billy Horschel APGA Tour Invitational to be held at the Stadium Course at TPC Sawgrass. The event will be a golf tournament as well as a career-development program and hosted by the six-time PGA Tour winner.
