Heading into the game Mathare badly needed the points so as to move out of the league basement. The Brewers on the other hand needed to win so as to open a nine point gap at the top. The game eventually went Mathare’s way as they frustrated Tusker FC to earn a point that could prove pivotal in their survival fight.Despite earning a point against the league leaders, Mathare coach Frank Ouna was not too impressed by Tusker’s style of play. “It was a tough game, largely because the ball was ever in the air. We didn’t play football today because our opponents resorted to high balls in the entire game. But it is a good point earned today,” he said.Tusker coach Robert Matano admitted that they didn’t play well and rued the chances they missed. “We didn’t play well today and we got chances which we did not utilize. We hit the cross bar in the first half and in the end one point is better than none. We will keep fighting, we league is long race. We will go reorganize and prepare for our next game, Matano stated.The game was fairly balanced in the opening stages. The first opportunity went Tusker’s way in the 10th minute but a great save from David Okello denied Faraj Ominde whose header looked goal bound. David Ochieng then cleared a Chris Onyango follow up off the line keep the scores level. Next was George Odhiambo whose shot came off the upright in the 17th minute with Mathare keeper Okello well beaten. Ten minutes later Christopher Onyango rattled the upright from inside the penalty area. Now in full control of the game Tusker started to attack, pinning the Slum Boys to their own half. Captain David Ochieng led his backline in repelling the Brewers attacks.Mathare got a rare chance in the 37th minute when James Kinyanjui eased past Hashim Sempala before unleashing a shot that narrowly went over the bar. The first half ended barren.Just like in the first half, Mathare were on the back foot in the second with Tusker doing all the attack. Sensing that the arsenal on the pitch wouldn’t complete the task at hand, coach Matano made three changes in the 65th minute. Humphrey Mieno, Jackson Macharia and Luke Namanda were introduced for Hashim Sempala, Chrispinus Onyango and Brian Marita.Okello pulled a point-blank save in the 69th minute to parry a Chris Ochieng header over the bar. Okello then did well to deny Sammy Meja from a free-kick in the 79th minute. Two more saves from Okello in the dying minutes earned Mathare a point
