After David Alaba, German champions Bayern Munich could be faced with another free agency blow: one of their most reliable midfielders Leon Goretzka could leave the club at the end of the season instead of signing a contract extension. The negotiations have stalled in recent weeks and Real Madrid as well as Manchester United are already luring the player with a huge wage increase. Both clubs have midfield issues and a free agent with such qualities would be like a Christmas gift for them. United is looking for Paul Pogba replacement and if they could persuade Goretzka to join them in 2022, they could sold the French international. Bayern midfielder is currently on a 20 million Ksh a week, and Manchester offered 30 million Ksh, plus bonuses when he signs. Real could certainly match Manchester’s offer, as the Royal club is looking for Modric (35) and Kroos (31) replacements for the future. They have already stole Alaba and can do it again to Bayern. Bayern have a new budget rules, set mainly due to Covid-19 pandemic and they are reluctant to change them, as the Alaba case showed. Bayern wage structure is divided in four levels. The first group is with players around 2.2 billion Ksh annual salary (Lewandowski, Neuer, Muller, Sane) and only Lewandowski is above that (around 3 billion). Second group is between 1.4 and 2.2 billion (Kimmich, Coman, Gnabry) and Goretzka is currently in the third group, with players up to 1.4 billion. According to Bild, after Goretzka’s agent Jorg Neubauer retired, his wife has teamed up with agent Thomas Kroth to take charge of the player’s affairs, and they are now looking for a pay rise near the Lewandowski limit. And Bayern already said a firm ‘nein’ to Alaba (who wanted more than Lewandowski) and it’s almost certain they won’t accept this either. Bayern to part ways with a French international: Nagelsmann wants to keep Coman while Tolisso is free to goGoretzka has scored 25 goals in 112 matches during his three seasons at Bayern. He has won three Bundesliga titles, two German Cups and the Champions League in 2020. Goretzka is also a regular in Germany National team with 35 games, scoring 14 goals. So, a dependable player like this, (and only 26 years old) should be a cornerstone, along with Kimmich, for the new Bayern generation. But the Germans are very careful with their financial structure, unlike most of Spanish clubs, and this is the consequence, they might lose one of their best players. If that happens, it would certainly be with a touch of karma, as they acquired Goretzka in 2018, from then title rivals Schalke….on a free transfer.
