Gor Mahia interim coach Sammy ‘Pamzo’ Omollo will have to wait longer for his first win since taking over from Carlos Vaz Pinto after watching his charges stretch their recent win-less run to six games following their 2-1 loss to Kariobangi Sharks at Thika Stadium. Pamzo who attributed the loss to inexperience in his squad highlighted the defence and forward departments as the areas he will be working on ahead of their next match against Ulinzi Stars on Monday. “We gave a number of players the chance to play and they did well. The penalty and the second goal were avoidable at all. For the six matches we have not won, we have been conceding and not scoring. These are areas we have to work on before our next game against Ulinzi,” he said. Sharks had ad coach William Muluya who had guided the club to four wins in the last five matches and a double over Gor this season hailed his players for the win which took them to third with 44 points. “Few weeks ago, we had lost five consecutive matches but now we have won four and drawn once in our last five. It shows that the hard work we have been putting in training is paying off,” he said. The game broke into life in the 20th minute when Eric Kapaito stepped up to convert from the spot, sending Gad Mathews the wrong way to give Sharks the lead.Sharks had gotten the penalty after John Ochieng hacked the lively James Mazembe down in the full glare of Felix Ekai who pointed to the spot.Ochieng who was a caution away from getting his marching orders would be substituted eight minutes later for debutant Nicholas Omondi in a bid to save him and stabilize the midfield which had been overun by Sharks.Kapaito nearly grabbed his brace six minutes to the half time whistle after capitalizing on a loose ball in the box but Mathews denied him from close range.Muluya withdrew Peter Oudu for Ronald Odede before restart to strengthen his midfield which struggled in the final minutes of the first half to contain Karim Nikiema.Odede repaid the opportunity with a superb assist in the 70th minute when his long pass found the unmarked Robert Onyango who drove the ball past an advancing Mathews to double their lead. Onyango would later be substituted for Julius Masaba in the dying minutes of the game. After conceding, Pamzo rested the duo of Geoffrey Ochieng who was stretchered off for Fred Nkata while John Macharia came off for Jules Ulimwengu. The Burundian grabbed a consolation goal for Gor in the 87th minute but their efforts to force a share of spoils were put off as Sharks who brought on Eric Juma for Mazembe in the added minutes defended resolutely until the final whistle.
