Okumu included in Gent squad for Belgian League season opener

Kenyan international Joseph Okumu could be in line for his debut in the Belgian Pro League after being included in the 21-man KAA Gent matchday squad that is set to do duty against St. Truiden in the two sides’ first game of 2021/2022 Belgian new season that is set to be played on Sunday night at Stayen Stadium.Since signing for the Belgian outfit on 20th June, the former IF Elfsborg defender has not made any appearance in the four club friendly matches his new side was using to prepare for the new campaign.🚌 Destination Sint-Truiden #stvvgnt pic.twitter.com/wU4sHYFBFm— KAA Gent (@KAAGent) July 24, 2021 Despite being included for the first time in the team’s matchday squad for their qualification campaign in the newly launched UEFA Europa Conference League, the Harambee Stars international was not involved in the action as he was an unused substitute in the emphatic 4-0 first leg win over Valeranga.Whether Okumu will feature in the match is a case of wait and see as he has only been at the club for just over a month now. Should be feature, the fast rising youngster will join the list that includes Robert Mambo, John Muiruri, Mike Okoth and most recently Johanna ‘Tosh’ Omollo as some of the Kenyans who have played in Belgium.Kenyan International Joseph Okumu unused as Gent kick off European campaign on a positive note #StarsAbroad https://t.co/o4I84lWGOv— Mozzart Sport Kenya (@MozzartSportKe) July 23, 2021 Okumu was brought in to beef up a Gent squad that finished seventh on the league standings last season.
