Spirited KCB cut Tusker’s lead to one point after thumping Kariobangi Sharks

KCB reduced the gap between them and league leaders just one point with a 3-0 whipping of Kariobangi Sharks at the Thika Sub-County Stadium on Sunday afternoon.Heading into the game both teams were in great form and it was anticipated that the game would be closely fought. KCB, however, proved the better side as they picked an easy win. Sharks had only one attempt on goal the entire game.KCB head coach Zedekiah Otieno was impressed by his team’s show in the game.”We played well today a 3-0 win is good enough and I can’t ask more from my players. We are now one point behind Tusker but it’s still not in our hands. We will continue working hard to win our games and see what happens at the end of the season,” he said.His Sharks counterpart William Muluya admitted that they did not play well.”KCB scored three clean goals and got a deserved win. Today we did not play well and didn’t create enough chances. I made four changes at halftime, I introduced players who were coming back from injury and three minutes later KCB got a penalty and scored. So today things didn’t go our way and we now focus on our next match, ” he stated.The Bankers went all out from the first minute and it paid off when they got the opener Samuel Mwangi who squeezed the ball home from a Mike Oduor cut-back.They continued knocking in search of more with David Simiyu, Curtis Wekesa and Mwangi leading the line. Sharks barely threatened in the opening stages as they were reduced to unfruitful quick breaks. Youngster, Geoffery Onyango, making just his second start fir Sharks looked lively down the left.KCB man-marked league top scorer Eric Kapaito for the better part of the first half with Nashon Alembi and Rama Mwendwa changing shifts to ensure that he didn’t not get his 23rd of the season against the title challengers. KCB took a narrow lead to the break.Unhappy with his team’s first half show, Sharks coach William Muluya made four changes before the restart. Robert Onyango, Peter Lwasa, Geoffery Onyango and Ibrahim Ochieng were rested for Julius Masaba, James Mazembe, Daniel Sakari and Tom Teka.Three minutes after the restart, John Kuol fouled Henry Onyango inside the penalty area and referee Davies Omweno awarded a penalty which Baraka Badi expertly dispatched to double KCB’s advantage. They continued to run the show and got a third in the 59th minute when Mike Oduor volleyed home a David Simiyu delivery. Two minutes later, Simiyu rattled the upright from a tight angle.Sharks grew into the game in the later stages of the game but they didn’t not get much penetration as KCB were tight at the back.The win takes KCB’s tally to 54, one behind leaders Tusker. Sharks on the other hand remain third with 44 points
