Akhulia backs fringe defenders to thrive against Stima

Bidco United head coach Anthony Akhulia has backed the available full backs for selection to seal the voids left by the duo of David Kalama and Lambert Oyuga who will miss their Friday duel against the relegation battling Western Stima.Akhulia will have to do without the two defenders who are suspended for receiving their marching orders in their previous matches.Kalama who has proven a consistent right back for the league debutants was sent off during their 2-2 draw with Bandari last week for a dangerous high boot challenge on Ndemi Keegan.59’| Redcard David Kalama, an early shower for Kalama for a rushed challenge Scores @BidcoUnited 2-1 @BandariOfficial#BKPL pic.twitter.com/eKXr6SdAYE— Betking Kenya Premier League (@Officialfkfpl) July 20, 2021 Oyuga on the other hand was red carded on Monday in their match against Nairobi City Stars for retaliating to Salim Abdallah’s challenge which saw play halted for a handful of minutes as the players engaged in a near physical exchange. With the two wingbacks unavailable, Akhulia who was also not spared against City Stars for strongly dissenting said it will be difficult to prepare on how to cage the Stima forwards who have recently been riding on good form.He however expressed confidence in the available ones to hold brief for the suspended ones.90+4’|Late Drama here Red Card for Oyuga of @BidcoUnited and Salim Abdallah of @NrbCityStars City 1-2 Bidco#BKPL pic.twitter.com/NXllz4Sd32— Betking Kenya Premier League (@Officialfkfpl) July 26, 2021 “It is always difficult to prepare for matches when you have regular players suspended. Against City Stars, I made three changes in the defence and it worked according to the script. I have thirty players who all want to play and I trust those who will be summoned for duty will cover for the unavailable ones as well as show that they deserve to play consistently,” he said.Akhulia is likely to stick with Kassim Mwinyi who clocked full time against City Stars at right back while Geoffrey Gitau who missed the last game is set to slot at left back. Bidco played Stima to a barren draw in the first leg at the Moi Stadium, Kisumu.
