If Kounde leaves Sevilla, it has to be for a Champions League club – why not the competition winners?

Chelsea has options in the back, no doubt about it. Captain Azpilicueta, Rudiger, Thiago Silva, Christensen, Ampadu, Sarr – and there is Kurt Zouma, who is being considered as the first option to be sold from that position group. But the number of available players does not mean Chelsea will not buy another talent. That is why UK media are echoing the news of Chelsea opening talks with Sevilla over potential signing of 94 million USD rated Jules Kounde. The 22-year old has three years left on contract but talks are advancing as Thomas Tuchel sees Zouma less and less as a part of Chelsea’s roster.Haaland about his transfer to Chelsea: ’It’s a lot of money for one person’Sevilla need cash and will do all it take to collect as much as possible however Chelsea would prefer to offer players to reduce the asking amount. A week or so ago Tottenham offered cash plus Davinson Sanchez to Sevilla in order to bring Kounde but the player rejected the deal as he wants Champions League football in his boots and even chances of winning it, which he did not see with the Spurs. There were other suitors also. Despite the fact Kounde has a strong leap, Manchester City weren’t convinced his 180 cm height would be suitable for the Premier League. Man United also showed interest but his compatriot Raphael Varane was always top of Red Devils’ wishlist.##EDITORS_CHOICE##Chelsea were also keen on Varane but Kounde is younger and is keen to join the European champions. As the English and the Spanish clubs try to settle on a price, a five year contract has been proposed and it is understood Sevilla are seeing free agent former Bayern Munich defender Jerome Boateng as a potential replacement. With up to 12 players possibly available for sale, Tuchel is willing to let a number of players leave to help offset their summer spending.
