It’s renewal time: Emerson, Stones, Foden in line for a pay rise

Manchester City are yet to buy a player in this transfer window. Apart from the 35-year old goalkeeper Scott Carson, who came on a free transfer from Derby County, the Citizens haven’t spent any real money on a player so far. But, they will renew a couple of important players, and will start from the defense. According to The Athletic, City’s keeper Emerson is in line for a three year renewal, and more players are waiting in line to do the same. Will half-a-million-USD-a-week get Harry Kane to Etihad Stadium? The Brazilian has been just short of remarkable since arriving from Benfica in 2017, and has Guardiola’s full support. In fact, they like him so much, that they want to extend his contract even thou the Brazilian is already tied up until 2025! With this extension, he will likely stay at the Etihad stadium until 2028, aged 34.And the City brass wants to follow the same path with other players, so Phil Foden is in line to another extension, since the midfielder had a magnificent season with the club and is one of the rare players not bought, but rather developed from the youth squad. Foden has a contract until 2024, but will start talks over extension, as well as John Stones, who has only one year left from his original contract. He’s not a changed man after all! Joey Barton was arrested amid accusations of beating his wifeAnd let’s not forget another two players: Raheem Sterling, the best England scorer in EURO 2020 (two years left) and Ruben Dias (only been in Manchester for a year) who are set for a pay rise. Things doesn’t look so bright for Riyad Mahrez and Gabriel Jesus, as they could be sold (Jesus mos t probably) this summer in order to raise the trasfer kitty for the Harry Kane and Jack Grealish transfers.
