Angolan club expresses interest in Gor Mahia youngster

Angolan top tier club, Grupo Desportivo Interclube is interested in signing Gor Mahia budding defender Frank Odhiambo, Mozzart Sport can report.Odhiambo, who joined Gor Mahia before the start of the current campaign from Bongonaya FC is one of the fast-rising young players in the country. He has become a mainstay in Gor Mahia’s defense since he made an impressive debut against Nairobi City Stars in May this year at the Utalii Grounds.His good performances at club level saw him named in the Kenya U23 team that participated at the just concluded CECAFA Under 23 championship in Ethiopia where Kenya finished fourth. In a letter seen by Mozzart Sport, the club wants the player to be in Angola by mid-August so that he can complete his transfer.“We are writing this letter to express our interest in hiring player Frank Onyango Odhiambo holder of passport XXXXX for our club, Interclube for the season 2021-22,” read part of the letter addressed to the player’s representative.The representative was however noncommittal on whether the youngster will take up Interclub’e proposal.“I cannot comment on it right now because we have not made any decision about it. For now, the player will continue to play for Gor Mahia we do not want to hinder his progress with transfer speculations, we will see what happens in the coming weeks,” the player’s representative told Mozzart Sport.There is something about Frank Odhiambo that most Kenyan center backs lack, he can carry the ball forward and turn defense into attack. The club is based in the capital Luanda. The team has its own stadium, a 10,000-seater built in 2004. They have two league titles to their name won in 2007 and 2010. They have won three Angolan Cup titles in 1986, 2003, 2011 and four Angolan Super Cup titles in 1986, 2001, 2008, 2012.
