Official: Massive loss to AFC Leopards as star goalkeeper heads for the exit

AFC Leopards goalkeeper Benjamin Ochan will leave the club at the end of the season for a return to the Ugandan Premier League, Ingwe have confirmed.Ochan’s contract with Ingwe has expired and he is just around to honor the remaining five league matches before bringing his two-year stay at the den to an end. A number of AFC Leopards players are out of contract and asked if they are engaging them over an extension, club treasurer Maurice Chichi disclosed that they will try to tie down several players on the advice of the coach. He went on to disclose that the former Uganda Cranes keeper will not be prolonging his stay at the end. Ochan has been linked with a move to either Uganda Revenue Authority FC or Vipers FC in the Ugandan Premier League.“The coach will guide us on which contracts to extend, several players’ contracts have expired but as you know the federation extended them to August due to the league stoppage caused by Covid-19. He went on to establish himself as Leopards’ first-choice custodian and in July 2020 he extended his stay by a further year. As he heads out, his understudy Jon Oyemba could benefit as he is likely to establish himself as the first-choice keeper at the den.Chichi also weighed on the recent decision to ban match officials for suspected match-fixing. On Friday evening, temporarily suspended Samuel Mwaura, Isaac Memusi, Collins Opiyo, Japheth Juma, and Raymond Onyango pending investigations into their involvement if any in match manipulation.“It is a good thing but it has come a little too late. If you watch our clips vs. Tusker, our clips vs Kariobangi Sharks, Sofapaka in Wundanyi , vs Western Stima in Nakuru, those are like 12 points lost through bad decisions and 12 points means we would be close to Tusker . We have been writing to the federation complaining, telling them the quality of refereeing is bad and for us it is a little too late, “he added.
