I didn’t want to do this to myself anymore. I wanted to quit, but my trainer (Dortmund youth coach Sebastian Geppert) helped me a lot, he supported me. I could forget everything on the pitch” explained Moukoko.Eventually, everything turned out well for the German U-16 player, who grew up with his grandparents in Cameroonian capital Yaounde before his father, owner of a German citizenship, brought him to Hamburg, where he started with St. Pauli, before switching to Borussia Dortmund. After coach Geppert helped him out of the stressful period, Moukoko soon showed his true potential and even caught the eye of Lionel Messi, who who gifted the teenager a present for his 15th birthday. Needles to say, Moukoko was impressed:”Oh my god! Got this as a gift from my idol. Many thanks, Leo Messi. I always want to be there when the team needs me. Of course it’s going to be difficult. But I have to be confident in my abilities. I need playing time. I’m sure I will have more playing time” says Moukoko.
