Francis Nambute came off the bench to score a stoppage time goal as Posta Rangers edged out Vihiga United 2-1 a FKF Premier League match played at at Thika Sub-County Stadium on Tuesday afternoon. Heading into the game, Vihiga United badly needed a win to ease their drop fears while Posta were seeking a second consecutive victory after last week’s 2-0 win over KCB. Vihiga coach Samuel Twago was disappointed with the manner that they lost the game despite playing well in the second half. “I can say we played well but a last minute lapse in concentration cost us the game, we should have picked at least one point from this game . We played well, creates opportunities but we did not utilize our moments and in the last minute we failed defend well and it cost us, it’s a painful way to lose a game,” Twago told Mozzart Sport.Posta Rangers assistant coach Collins ‘Korea* Omondi is happy that they won despite not playing so well.”I think my players probably underrated the opponent because we did not play too well but I kept pushing them to perform and in end we got an important win which is what matters,” he told Mozzart SportPosta had a great chance to go ahead in the 4th minute when Eliud Lokuwam found himself through on goal, Vihiga keeper Morgan Alube however came off his line and got a touch of the ball, deflecting it wide. A minute later, United’s Isaac Otieno headed wide from inside the penalty area. The Mail-men slowly took charge of the clash and started to attack vigorously in search of the opener. Vihiga had another opportunity in the 19th minute from a set-piece but Lawrence Luvanda’s effort was picked by Posta keeper Kevin Opiyo.Against the run of play, Posta went ahead in the 25th minute from the penalty spot. Lokuwam raced into the area and as he prepared to shoot, Sammy Sindani tripped him and a penalty was awarded from which Michael Apudo expertly converted. Four minutes before the break, Vihiga got the leveler from a well executed breakout. Mike Isabwa quickly put Isaac Otieno through and the forward did well to square the ball for an easy Luvanda tap in.Vihiga started the second half stronger. Three minutes into the second stanza Opiyo in Posta goal pulled a point blank save to deny Luvanda his second moments after Stewart Omondi had narrowly missed the target. The visitors continued to run the show especially in the middle of the park and reduced Posta to deep defending.Posta had a great chance to score a second in the 73rd minute but substitute Peter Ng’ang’a missed a sitter after being teed up by Francis Nambute.Nambute would atone for his miss with a winning goal in the 90th minute winner. He controlled the ball before firing past Alube to earn his side maximum points.
