Cash-strapped Sofapaka loses Burundian star

Six months after joining FKF Premier League side Sofapaka, Burundian midfielder Bizimana Amissi has left the club for Rwandan Premier League side, Kiyovu Sports Club on a three-year deal.Amissi joined Batoto ba Mungu in February 2021 from Burundian side, Rukinzu football club. His time at Sofapaka was however torrid as he was sparingly used by the 2009 champions, he featured majorly as a sub. He did not find the back of the net during his short stint in the FKF Premier League.According to sources in Rwanda, the diminutive midfielder has penned a three-year deal with the club worth Ksh. 2.6 million. The club has also signed Amissi’s former teammate Ismaël Nshimirimana from Rukinzu FC.#TransferUpdateRwanda top flight side @SCKiyovuSports has signed 2 two Attacking Midfielders in the names of Bizimana Amissi🇧🇮 from @FC_Sofapaka and Ismaël Nshimirimana🇧🇮 from #RukinzoFC🇧🇮.Amissi signed a 3y.d for $25k while Ismaël signed a 2y.d for $15k. pic.twitter.com/uJvmdBg3k2— Foot +257 (@257Foot) August 5, 2021 Amisii’s departure is largely due to the financial challenges Sofapaka is currently facing. The team has not paid its players for a couple of months and in recent weeks they have been boycotting training in protest. They have however been honoring all their league matches registering poor performances in the process.Former captain Michael Kibwage has already announced his desire to quit the club when the season comes to an end. The defender who joined Batoto ba Mungu at the start of the season from KCB cited lack of pay as the main reason he wants to ditch the Ken Odhiambo led team.As the season nears its end, there are rumors that a number of key players could bolt out of the team for moves to clubs that pay. The 2009 champions are just one of the many FKF PL clubs struggling to make ends meet. The team is currently 13th in the table with 33 points after 28 rounds of league matches.
