A Calvin Sanya freekick was all Bundes FC needed to sail to the last four of 2021 Dennis Oliech Cup as they beat Bul Youngstars 1-0 on Friday afternoon.In another quarterfinal encounter, Walter Juma’s hat-trick helped Mashimoni FC to the semifinals after thrashing Bright All Stars 4-2.The clash pitting Bundes FC and Bul Youngstars FC was an evenly contested tie in the opening exchanges as both teams struggled to hreak each other down with most of the action centering on the tight midfield battle with Bundes just slightly edging Bul on possession.The few chances created in the first half were squandered by Moses Kelvin for Bul who could not keep his cool when he twice found himself alone and in acres of space while Victor Karim blazed his scissor kick over the bar after some brilliant piece of skill from Calvin Sanya.The best chance of the half fell to Collins Mlema whose long range effort shave the cross bar on its way out as the tricky winger gave the Bul fullbacks a run for their money, as the first half drew to a close with both teams locked in a barren draw.The closing stanza had a similar start to the first half as both teams could not grab control of tie but Bundes took the lead in the 59th minute when Eric Mulu was brought down on the left channel with Calvin Sanya unleashing a sumptuous freekick that found the back of the net.Bundes upped the ante after taking the lead in pursuit of the an assurity lead as Bul failed to explore the spaces left behind with Bundes commiting bodies forward for the better part of the second half as Bundes held on for the 1-0 lead till the final whistle.Elsewhere in the first Quarterfinal of the day Kibera-based Mashimoni FC booked a place in the last four of the tournament after thumping Bright All Stars FC 4-2 in a tense match that was tightly contested.Mashimoni FC opened the scoring in the 12th minute through Juma Walter but before the dust could settle on their lead Madut Ogutu pulled level eight minutes later as both teams had a frenetic start to the game.Juma Walter was thorn in the flesh of Bright All Stars defenders as he bagged his second of the game in the 40th minute and completed his hat-trick in the 42nd minute as he rounded the keeper to tap into an open net.Bright All Stars returned into the second half a much-rejuvenated side and came to within a goal of Mashimoni when Mathare United and South Sudanese forward Dani Lual netted Bright All Stars second goal of the game.The game was turned into a tense clash as tempers flared between both teams but Mashimoni FC put the game to bed with 11 minutes remaining on the clock as Peter Gagunju dinked the ball over the on rushing goalkeeper as they sealed their place in the semifinals.
