Hunger and dreams pushing KCB towards historic league title

With only three games left before the curtains fall on the 2020/2021 Football Kenya Federation Premier League, two teams, Tusker and KCB, find themselves fighting for the title as they sit at the top of the league level on 58 points. While the Brewers, who are top of the standings courtesy of a superior goal difference, may have nothing to play for apart from the prize money as they already secured the single CAF Champions League slot that is normally a preserve of the league winners, the Bankers, as their midfielder Brian ‘Rio’ Ochieng’ explains, are driven by hunger and a dream to achieve a feat the club has been unable to accomplish in their history.Since the team’s establishment in 1993, KCB have never won the league title, a factor the Zedekiah ‘Zico’ Otieno coached side are using as motivation as they tread on unchartered territory of title run in.“We are really fighting for the title this season. When you look at us, we have never won the league in our history. That is something we are using as motivation in this home stretch and come the end of the season, we hope we will be the champions,” Rio told Mozzart Sport.Great team win for the ⁦@KCBFootball⁩ 💚we showed why we’re definitely on the right path⚽️ pic.twitter.com/63YTy60Whn— Ochieng19 (@supario19) January 11, 2021 On top of attempting to make history, the lanky midfielder explains how the KCB side that is mostly composed of young players is channeling that youth drive into a thirst focused on bagging the championship.“We are a side that is mostly composed of young players. As a young team and as young players, our dream is just to clinch the league title and have that crown and winners medal in our careers. It is what we are working so hard for,” he added.🏃‍♂️| This is it! The homestretch!Time to activate that final sprint.Come on Lions!#Believe #LionHearted 🦁 pic.twitter.com/s7a2JLIWsf— KCB Football Club 😷 (@KCBFootball) August 6, 2021 The midfielder was also quick to outline the role played by their current head coach. In Zico, KCB have a seasoned winner who knows what it takes to win the league as he had successful stints as an assistant coach with record Kenyan champions Gor Mahia whom he helped to league titles in 2017, 2018 and 2018/2019 seasons.“Zico is a really big part of where we have gotten to right now. He keeps motivating us and inspiring the belief that winning the league title is possible. For where we are right now, we believe that it is possible. We know it is going to be tough but we are going to fight until the end,” Rio concluded. With three games against Vihiga United, AFC Leopards and Nairobi City Stars left before the 2020/2021 champions are declared, will KCB be able to conquer their dreamy quest?
